I was digging my basement yesterday, between showers, and the C-clip that holds the bucket linkage from the dipperstick came off. I noticed the link laying down and stopped to see what the problem was> I saw the washer/spacer laying in the dirt, but no C-clip to be found. It's an hour to the nearest place to get another C-clip, and I'm working. I went to the truck to see what I could find. Closest thing was the lock washer from a 2 5/16s ball hitch. I took a hammer and a pair of vice grips and spread the washer about 1/2" and forced it into the C-clip groove. When it snapped into the groove it was more solid than the one on the other side, which I can remove to put the footing bucket on. I think I'll leave it alone, worked out great for a field repair. Later, Nat

I keep all sorts of odd supplies on my field service truck that I use to keep equipment up and running. Nuts,Bolts, cable clamps, pipe fittings, Hyd hoses, air brake fittings, rope, chain and anything else I may need along with an assortment of 3' to 4' pieces of angl iron, black pipe and flat bar for welding repairs.

Years ago (late 70's) Was rinding dirt bikes in the bottom of The Ceasers Creek Resevoir Ohio, this was before they finished it and started flooding,Made a great place to 4 wheel and bike!
Anyway came across a guy and his girlfriend sitting with the hood up on there jeep,Sun was starting to set and we where on our way back to the truck when we stopped to see it they needed a hand! Turned out that the little tang on top of the rotor button had broken off! being 5 miles from getting out of the lake bottom and 20 miles from anyplace to get parts they were stuck!
Thinking what we could do to help I looked down and on the ground was several pull tabs off of soda or beer cans (remember pull tabs?) breaking the ring off the end of it I bent it up in the shape of the tang on the rotor button unwrapped some electric tape off the wiring on my bike jammed the tab up under what was left of the rotor tang wrapped with the tape, put it back on the distributor and the jeep fired right up!
I think his girlfriend could have kissed us all right there! Gave him a few extra pull tabs and followed him out of the lake bottom and down the road they went! It is amazing what you can come up with when your stuck!

Having "Junk" odds & ends around can be mighty handy. Funny thing is..... the ones that make fun of boxes & cans of stuff are the first ones that always come looking for some item to fix something. I always remind them that it is not junk, but worth a fortune, if it can keep you running.

It is amazing what you can do when you are in the middle of nowhere, with nothing. A plug wire fell off of my tractor, and I could not locate it anywhere. I made a plug wire from a piece of bailing wire. Down time costs money and time. Need to keep these things going. Stan
