I want to put a hydraulic thumb on a 1991 CAT E120B hoe. Can I plug into the out going pressure hose and return hose from the bucket or stick hydraulic line to get the hydraulic fluid to flow through the foot control valve for the thumb? I figure this is better then installing a separate hyrauilic pump on the machine. And a lot lower cost. Any commnets?

If there is already an extra pedal in the cab it is a pilot control for the auxilliary valve that came with the machine. It sounds like you already have the pilot plumbing installed and you just have to remove the plugs from the main valve and install you hoses. Usually I install an electric actuated pilot valve and a different hand grip that has the switches installed in them.

You can't plumb into a dedicated circuit like the bucket of stick unless you install a divertor valve. When the oil is diverted to your new function the regular one stops. That will really mess you up operating wise.

Yes you can ..But ,, You must use a HIGH presure valve . one that can handle 5000 to 6000 psi presures. Modern track hoes all run high presure control valves..There is a company in Willoughby, Ohio called Hudco. They specialize in aux. hydraulic installations..
