Am looking at a 1010 dozer. Engine is bad!Has a diesel engine! Owner told me that rebuilding is too costly and some parts are not available any more? If this is so, has anyone ever installed a Perkins, Cummins, or other type engine in a 1010? Any help or input would be appreciated. Thanks T.T.

Have rebuilt 1010 diesel engine with less than 300 hrs since rebuild, Needs glow plugs and 3 injectors cleaned. $ 1000 [ less than cost of rebuild] Or will sell machine with loader and hoe for $3000

I had a JD1010 crawler loader some years ago with a bad engine. I fitted a JD2010 engine without problems. As the block was from an agricultural tractor I recall I had to drill several holes on the front of the motor for the hydraulic pump drive. I have no problems with 2010 decks here in Australia as I repair several each year. The secret in getting a good life from these motors is a good water conditioner to stop corrosion of the liners and don;t let them overheat often caused by a loose fan belt. We have close to 100 JD2010 tractors in our area and with good servicing last OK. Starter motors can be a problem. Incidently I have just purchased a JD1010 tractor from a friend who purchased it new for a hop garden in 1962. It has not given any trouble since new. It now needs injectors. I hope this information is of interest.

Their may be differences between a gas and desiel and a croller and wheel tractorthat I don't know about but I do know that a HC145G engine of a Hi-Lo 45, (Late roundback) combine will fit in a 1010 row crop utility tractor and about 10 horse more than orignal and the HC 165G, (Belive used in 2510) off of early square back looks to be identical to the 145 engine, the 180 engine off of a late model square back 45 is different and will not fit, I have combines with all three engines here that are still in use

I doubt that it would be really feasible to put a different brand engine in there, at least not for less money that it would cost to rebuild the existing engine, or find a good used one.
Only part I had heard was hard to get right now is the deck sleeve, and I believe that Deere has them on back order, so should be available again.

Hi Jerry,I forgot to ask where you are and what parts do you have as I need a 10 inch clutch and preeure plate and also a under hood fuel tank. The early 45 combines had a Hurcles motor and that would not fit.I have unlocked my e-mail

SC Bobr, I beleive the early 2010 combine engine without a sleeve deck WILL NOT bolt up to the crawler bell housing. The later ones with sleeve deck may. I found out the hard way and have some 2010 parts left over.

SC Bob keep us informed on your swap because I have a 2010 that has a cracked block and I'm considering a model 45 swap.
