Looked at a Case 580B to buy this morning. Started ok but no motion (power shuttle) only gears grinding when attempting to shift, brake peddles are on the floor and power steering barely moves. Are these run from the same system? Transmission fluid leval was low. What type fluid does case use?

All the systems you mention are seperate from each other, brakes are dry type and lever operated by linkage, steering is run from an engine mounted pump(this pump resevoir has a filter inside which napa does sell)remove the acorn nut at end of canister to get too.As far as hard to shift these have a critical clutch valve adjustment-low fluid level will have a roll in not shifting.CASE calls thier fluid TCH (torque converter hydrauilc oil)a standard universal tractor hydraulic oil is ok. KEY NOTE**these tractors are noted for not just taking off-have to start and raise um up a bit on the stabilizers and let run and warm up in colder weather-very sluggish tranny. If the guages at all work watch the clutch PSI guage whe ya depress the clucth the guage should drop, hope this is some help
