Hough HAH, Similar To HA?

I have an HAH with a torque converter and it doesn"t move unless I give it a lot of gas. Also It won"t go into gear unless I turn off the engine and then engage it. Something in the transmission still spins with the clutch disengaged. Any ideas why? I don"t want to buy a repair manual for it unless I know I can fix my problems. I do have an operators manual for a Hough HA but is it close enough for me to use for now? Does anyone have an HAH manual for trade?

I just bought one that does the same thing that you discribe. I have no manual and have not had time to look at the beast so am going to make some guesses. It may have a clutch brake. If the brake is worn out or out of adjustment that would cause the problem of not stopping the convertor from turning thus not going into gear with the engine running. The convertor may be low on oil which would cause slippage thus no power to ground. Just guessing but do the easy stuff first. good luck Ralph

Thanks Ralph. I have been adding oil into what I think is the fill openning. The drive does improve but I don't know how much more to add. It seems you and I are some of the few with these beasts. I have mine posted in Tractor Photos. Let's keep in touch as we get these things in order.

I found that after adjusting the clutch and adding oil to the transmission mine works ok. I found that the brake Micro-Lock was stuck and the brakes were not releasing, (the reason for needing so much power to move) Mine works ok now. Mine is a model FHG with a loader and backhoe. Good luck
