Case 188 Engine Question

Okay, I'm going to show my ignorance here but I've got a question. The head bolts on my Case 450 are not the traditional 6 point hex head. They look more like a 12 point "star" head (did not count the actual number of points yet). Obviously they are high torque.

I doubt that my Craftsman 12 point socket is the right tool for this. My question is, what kind of socket should I be using, and where do I get one?

I'm going to have to pull the head and pan on this machine pretty soon. Its starting to give a LOT of blowby and its getting worse. Sounds like its running on 3 cylinders now too. Time to open her up and do an in-frame rebuild.

Aside from replacing the pistons/liners/gaskets and checking the valves, is there anything in particular that applies to the 188 Diesel that I need to look for?

Thanks,
John

Thanks for the help guys. I'll use the beefiest 12 point I can find. Probably 1/2 inch drive.

A good craftsman socket,1/2" drive is all I've ever used, the real pain comes to the valve cover support studs on nuts,(make sure of the torque on these, the thru head studs like to turn at times.
