Hydraulic piston seal trick?

I'm trying to install the piston seal on a small one piece hydraulic piston on a Bobcat 610. The polymer seal and an O-ring go into a slot on the outside of the piston, but the seal is not very elastic and I'm afraid of breaking it while trying to get it on. Is there any trick to making this operation go smoothly?

Soak it in hot water, then use another O-ring to pull it into place. Pull the O-ring you used to install it out from under it, and it will shrink into place as it cools.

Thanks. I used a hair dryer to accomplish the same thing and it worked great.
