Any tips on getting the lower starter bolt back on? I can"t get my hand through the hole in the side frame. Getting a box end in there to get it out was tough enough. Who designed that mess? Thought about torching the hole bigger but would probably set it on fire with all the grease and hydraulic lines there. Which are also in the way I might add. The top nut isn"t the easiest either. Also how do I adjust the reverser forward to reverse so I don"t have to use the foot clutch? Tried the bolt under the rubber plug under the foot rest. It will snap your neck and afraid something will break if I don"t tap the clutch. Thanks for any help. Gus

Hi Gus.. Welcome to the wonderful world of JD crawlers..You can access the bottom bolt on starter with a 3/8" drive 9/16" universal socket and an extension. I usually thread the top bolt in to within 1/8" of being snug.Sometimes it's easier to remove dipstick tube and fuel transfer pump to get an angle shot with the universal socket and extension. Don't cut the frame rail.. It will crack to smitherines, and we don't want that..I shouldn't tell you this but, I once paid a little Amish kid a buck to start that bolt for me...The trans can be adjusted by feel but you won't know if pressure is up to snuff. You can turn that nut under the rubber plug til it starts to move the clutch pedal off it's stop, then back it off slightly. maybe a turn or two, try it if still aggressive turn it in a half turn at a time. You should be able to adjust it so it just sucks you out of the seat slightly whengoing to reverse from high without using the clutch pedal.. good luck..

Thanks Roy. I thought about the little kid idea too. None around but my 18 mo. old grandson. He just likes to get grease on himself so far. I did the starter thing once before and was tortured then too. Can't remember how I did it.It's only got about 500 hours on it.I'm thinking the starter button might be sticking? Or just my kind of luck. It's got a nut on top. Can't get a socket on it. Box, then open. Box, then open, etc.I will try the socket/swivel on the bottom. And the shuttle adjustment as soon as I get the new strter on. Thanks again, Gus.
