I am a newbie and have a john deere 450 crawler that the transmission is overheating under normal load conditions. Engine temp is fine, replaced filter, oil level is fine.
The tracks will also stop going into a wall of dirt but continue to drive when I bury the bucket. Not sure if they are related.
Could the oil pressure cause this?
Thanks

You need to get a book and follow adjusting sequence as it reads in book. There are many steps to accuratly set-up this transmission. All steps need to be followed..You need to set pedal free-play, speed of shift and actual pressure of transmission.

I ordered the service manual the other day. Hopefully I will receive it in a week.

Will the manual explain what tools I may need? Like tool to check the pressure.
Thanks for your help

I would check the trans pressure. It should be 160psi +/-. Pressure can be changed with spacers under plug. This seems to have fixed my overheating problem & made fwd to rev shifting snappy. Good luck! jim

Have a 450B with erratic shifting on HLR. Sometimes slips and eventually refuses to move forward. Checked pressure, pulled plug and shimmed till the cows came home and couldn"t get more than 60 # out of it. Anything else I need to do before changing the pump?

Thanks Jim. I will look into the pressure. I assume you are speaking of the plug under the floor board on the left side.
What would cause it to loose pressure? Beyound the plug being loose.
