going with 3 wire,when i was at napa guy told 1 wire is only good for high rpm motors like a boat,farm tractor.dozer run slow and idle alot.the wiring diagram i got out of the farmall page is pretty simple.napa has to get me the gen light.thanks again.

I like the three-wire sytem, and was one of those who suggested it in your original post.

However, the one-wire units just need the engine revved up initially for a few seconds to allow them the "excite" from the voltage produced internally by residual magnetism.

Once they excite, and begin to charge, they will charge at slow speeds, just like a three-wire alternator.
