I was at the junk yard yesterday and found a cat D4 engine there with the pup start rad was there too. Alot of little things have been broken by them moveing it around. They sayed they wanted 20cents a pound for it. Is it worth this? or should i just leave it there. Is parts hard to find for this unit. It is set up now as a power unit.
thanks

Masseyman50,
Later Bob is right, they last almost for ever….. almost bullet proof. It also my be a D4400 engine there starting engine was in the rear and opposed as well. the D4400 engine was the power unit for the RD4 and the early D4’s the D315 was not used till the U series. What is the S/N that will tell you what tractor it came out of.

If it will turn over and has no holes out the side it's rebuildable and they sure last a long time. If the starting engine is on the back 2 cyl opposed it's a D315.

It does have the 2 clyinder engine on the back and has a twin disk cluch on it. I worked with one of these engines this summer in a saw mill and loved it. when looking at this on in the junk yard i didnt see were the intake manifold goes(dont thing iam stupit or something) I just didnt see were it went or was. But it was almost dark. Are parts still around? like a manifolds and other little parts that brake when they use the magnet.
thanks

Keith, the main wearing parts are still available. Don't know if all the castings are available new or not but lots of used parts people have all the things you need. If you have a use for it and rebuild it right your grandchildren will still be useing it. Get a serial#. The intake should also have the starting engine exhaust running through it in a small pipe.

Can ya tell me if a rad off a d2 will fit it? Is it costly to rebuild? how many hp is it? I see that type of manifold on the mill engine i used but i didnt see were it would go on this one. Got me realy wondering. The engine was running when sent there 4 years ago. i can turn it over some but not all the way. pup is stuck.
thanks
