Can someone please tell me the weight of a CAT D-2 tractor? Also what are some price ranges for these machines? I am looking at one that has definitely seen some work. Unkown if it even runs. What are some things to look for when buying one? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Had one, and if I remember correctly, its weight was about 9500 pounds with the blade. Mine was a wide track, agricultural version.

Check out the serial number( side of block or under seat). Is it a narrow track (3J or 4U), or a wide track (5J or 5U). Check out the under carriage for how much wear or life left. The weak point on the starter motor is the casting under the motor banks is thin and if not drained or enough anti freeze it can burst. Good tractors. Allan

Got mine for $350.00 not running yet but promising. I had to take the blade off to make the weight on my 7500GVW trailer even with that I could not go over 35mph. I live in Yucca Valley, Ca if you are anywhere close maybe I could be of some help...

Thanks. I plan to check it out in the next couple days. I would like to pick it up cheap. It has been sitting in the same spot for years. Like I said, don't even know if it runs. I should be able to haul it on a 10,000 # goosneck.

Another reason my blade came off was that with out it running the blade was like an anchor dragging. You will need heavy duty ramps also, mine are made from two pieces of heavy four inch channel welded together each. I tryed pulling it on with a double shieved 12V electric winch but it was to much. I chaulked the trailer and managed to pull the dozer on the tailer with 4 wheel drive in low low...
