Called about a 955A cat end loader w/pony start .Owner said real clean with 60+ undercarriage ,strong main motor ,but when you turn to left you have to pull extremely hard on lever to get it to turn, turns right real easy. I have not saw this unit other then pictures but was wondering if the turning problem would be a serious problem ? or expensive? also what would be a fair $ value for it Thankyou in advance for any imput TP

No problem, go out and see if you can run it or the owner can run it, check that steering clutch problem out in detail, and post your findings here, make note of what the specifics are on the problem, and if you could take photos of the U/C, you might get some feedback on it, up close, clear shots of the pins/bushings, sprocket, and rollers etc. I always thought the 955 was a respectable crawler loader, did quite a bit of work with one some years back.

955A were the first of th 955 loaders make in the 1950. a few wee actually D4 with an added on loader frame make by traxton, Cat later bought traxton. sonds like you need to pull te steering clutch and rebuild it. they were dry clutches and are a bugger to do. the brake bands are three peice and you learn how to replace them with out pulling the clutches. they are not power shift and are lever steered. $1000.00 to 1500. should get you one
