You can get a good quality re-print from Midland Press, http://www.midlandcorp.com/Sales%20Inquiries%20and%20Product%20Demonstrations.htm or check e-bay at the link posted beloe. I agree with Bob, an original is always a god find, as the print quality is the best, Midlands product is very good and J.....sle's is well... they don't go out of the way to tell you about the lack of print quality, but still get fair $$ for what they sell, and although I sent a detailed inquiry to this site, YT, regarding the print quality issue, (as I believe that is what YT sells here), I recieved no response about it. I can't see wasting money on poorly reproduced manuals, as the photos and schematics are important, and must be clearly reproduced. I find that purchasing a good quality original or reproduction is money well spent. I also have found that having a copy machine is also money well spent, be it a 2nd hand that is in good order or, even these new all in one printers, like HP offers, the HP 6110 was like $350, but has enlarge/reduce on the copier function, you can make copies out of your manuals, of specific pages you need, take them into the shop and if they get trashed so what, you can always make a good copy out of a clean manual and your manuals will stay clean, bindings might wear some from excessive copying.

I also find that the self serving attitude of YT's site administration ( based on the CENSORSHIP of certain vendors in the forums ) is highy disappointing and restrictive when trying to help someone out here. It's actually wrong and I think the people who decided to implement censoring certain vendors by name in the forums, have done so for their own benefit. I see nothing wrong with being able to recommend "a" or any vendor here, be it YT or someone else, to know that the forum is biased towards it's own brokerage of parts and frowns on the rest of the vendors out there is sad to say the least. It's fine to support the home team, but restricting people from sharing information about other vendors on these forums is wrong and the administrators of this site should be reprimanded for doing so, if the intent of these forums is to help tractor enthusiasts, collectors, restorers etc. it contradicts their intent, and humorously enough they have censored out a vendor they sell ! J....sles

As the other post suggests you can buy many manuals through this site. If they dion't have what your looking for you can try----J-e-n-s-a-l-e-s.com---- (without all the hyphens, this site won't allow me to put it in any other way for some reason) They carry alot of manuals for the older construction equipment. Just be aware that with some of the CAT manuals from that period of time all you may get is a service manual for the basic machine. Then there are individual manuals that actually give the more in depth maintenance and service information on the particular model engine as well as the hydraulic system. Good luck.

thanks, wayne i have already found out about basic books and therein lies my problem i don't know what books contains what. i ordered what i was told was the operators manual. what i got was a operation & maintenance manual that had some needed info but noting about hyd. system as to type of oil, location of filter, etc. i don't know what engine i have , the plate on the motor has the same # as the tractor. i need to know how to properly service and operate this machine. when i ask around here i too little dependable info. not many cat operators of this vintage machine.are 71a,73a,74a,76a,82a,83a the same series of machines covered by the same book? thanks!

Use diesel engine oil in the hyd tank too but not in the powershift trans it needs Cat TDTO4. Use 50 oil in the final drives. The engine should be a D333 if it has a diecast aluminium valve cover or a D333C if it has a pressed steel valve cover. If the Hyd tank is infront of the dash, the filter should be under the round cover opposite the fill cap. If you have a powershift trans the trans filter should be up beside the engine. There is a suction screen under a 4" square cover in the trans suction line too. The manual you want now is the "Service Manual" it will cover the tractor, there will also be one for the hyd controls too, look for serial # on the hyd tank.

thanks, bob i found the plate on oil tank also it looks like i have leaks around shafts coming out of bottom toward motor. are the valve bodies inside the tank? can the leaks be repaired without tank removal? one is connected to lever by seat that raises the blade.

The valves are all inside of the tank, and that keeps them clean and away from people messing with them. When you drain the tank to change the oil you can take it off and apart to replace the seals. If the shafts are worn at the seal as they likely are you might be able to get thin sleeves to put on them, If there is any wear on the shafts at the bearing area replace them and the bearings too. When you are at it replace all of the seals between the valve body and the tank, they will be flat and hard giving you more leaks later. Do it now and forget it. Email me if you have trouble. The dealer will just have to dust off the micro fiesch to get your parts. Next time you go for parts look for some one that could be a WalMart Greeter, No hair no teeth and just wet himself. He will know what you need.

The best is an original you might find on Ebay, pic's are better but at the upper left of this page you can order a service manual that is 320 pages for $60 app.
