Does anyone know what year a backhoe would be with a serial# of 696? Also what type of oil and quanity should be used in the shuttle transmission, regular transmission and the differental? Where are the fill & level plugs for each and would one fill port fill all resevoirs? I have gotten to two different responses from two dealers on the oil to use in the differental. One said use Hytran other said 80-90 gear oil????? I know...I need to get a service manual. Thnx in advance guys!!!

Good Morning Bob, --- 6 / Jan. / 2995 ---

The SERIAL NUMBERs for the "3414" are of the "KIND and CODE" S #s. In the middle of yours is a letter / either a "B" or "U" / this tells wheather your tractor was made in the United States or Great Britian. E-Mail me your complete SERIAL NUMBER / my E-Mail "farmall28@yahoo.com" ,
and I'll date it for you.

Take care, Milton / Indiana, US

I had one of these a few years back for about 4 years. All the hydraulics worked out of the transmission so that was the only thing to fill, I think the fill plug/dipstick was in the top near the gearshift.

It used only HYtran type fluid for everything.

You could check for this by draining out a little from the drain plug on the bottom...think you will discover quickly that it is not 80-90gear lube.

I"ve owned and operated a B414 for about 10 years now. Simiar to the 3414. Industry vs. Agricultual. On the B414, the hydraulics operate using standard R&O hydraulic fluid(AW46)within a separate dedicated reservoir. This reservoir is the housing(rockshaft) under the seat. It is filled via a plug on top/right of this housing. Fill to within inch or 2 of top. Drains from plug at the rear/back of this housing.

The transmission/pinion/ring/axles are all lubed with the same fluid. Question? What type of fluid? That"s debatable. About 800 tractor hours ago, I changed my 414 fluid to 80-90wt. Have had no problems and don"t expect any because of the fluid type.

Hope this helps a little.

Nope. My brother has a B414 and I can tell you there is no comparison between the farm tractor and the Industrial Backhoe.
