About a year ago I had the right steering clutch replaced. I had a lot ot trouble with it after the replacement. I had a technicion help me tear it down again. A lot of oil in the clutch housing. We replaced the seals, clutch discs and the brake band. It has started to leak oil in to the cavity again. I think it may be final drive oil. How can the seal be replaced without damaging the seal. I had the final drive housing off when it was replaced last time and installed the seal. We were very careful but it is nearly impossible to know whether the seal is damaged or not. Any help would be much appreciated. The left side steers perfect and gives no trouble at all. The right side has always been a problem.

With the final removed it should be realitivly simple to install the pinion seal with out damaging it. If you don't have the pinion removed from the final you can tape up the splines of the pinion shaft to protect the seal when installing it. Are you sure it's final drive oil? If it is it should have a very different smell to it than transmission oil. Be sure to check your bearings. Ordinarilly seals don't leak unless theres a bearing thats either going bad or is out of adjustment.
