I have a TD9 with the s/n long gone due to wear. She starts on gas and runns on diesel. Is there another way to date her other then a serial number? Any input would be great.

Thanks, Casey.

Casey, Your tractor should be an 1945 according to my information. Starting with SN-18247 thru. 23691 for the year 1945.

Thank you so much. How in the world did you date it? The serial number was to be on a plate where ones foot rests under the brake where it would and did wear off. I have tried to date it several times. Thanks again.

Casey B.

Casey,
I forgot to add, when you are looking for parts take both serial numbers, the engine and chassis (the ones you have posted) as Jim has said the engine and chasses numbers will not and do not match up as the same…. for what reason IH done this I have no knowledge. As for checking the serial numbers your parts dealer should have a book with this information, just give him the numbers you have posted here and they should be able to tell you. They are also, sometimes, a Deals number as well, but that number should not have anything to do with your search for parts.

Thanks again for dating my TD9. I had heard there were books in which numbers could be cross cheeked. Its a pain trying to get parts with out a production date. I think I have driven more then one parts man nuts trying to explain what I have.

Casey.

Hello Casey. A couple things to look for.

Is the air cleaner right in front of the Seat, or further up front coming out of the hood sheet metal? The 40's through early 50's had the cleaner in front of the seat. Mid 50's - on had the cleaner out through the sheet metal. The engine ser. # should be stamped in the block on the left side (while you are seated), just above the fuel filter(s) on the rear half of the engine. While the chassis and engine serial numbers were not the same, it will help identify the year.

Yes the air cleaner is right in front of the seat. The engine serial number is TDCBM13729 and the chassie s/n is TDOB2181 ? T7B with the last number an 0 or a 6. I can not make out the # with a ?. Dealers have been able to give me ball park date because of gas over diesel but I have been unable to pin point a birth date so far. Thanks, I did not know about the air cleaner. That is a new one.
