Have an Oliver HG but do not know if it is a 31,42, or 68. How can you tell? Second, according to my information production on the HGs started in 39, what year did it end? Third, My engine model number is 1XK-3 being a 4 popper gas made by Hercules. How long was This engine in production and what are some basic facts like C/I ? Any info would be helpfull Mr. B

How wide are your tracks, I have an HG that is 49 inches from out side to out side and from what I have been told thats a 42 so if your tracks measure 42 from inside of track to inside of track its 42. See where I'm going as far as tracks. Sounds like some one may have swapped engines also I think it should be an IXB but not sure. Call Zimmermans to get more info and even books 717-738-2573

Approx. 1939-1949 the HGs had the smaller Hercules engine without waterpump. In 1949, they came out with the larger Hercules IXB3 WITH the waterpump. Last HGs came out around 1951 and the OC3s took their place. As far as track gauge goes, the numbers represent center-to-center measurments. This is very little difference between the late HGs and the early OC3s. Late OC3s have some small changes around the final drives as well as a few other things.

Tracks measure 32 inside to inside so it could be a 31. On the other hand from inside to outside it measures 42.

It is a 42 inch. You aked about the engine. A little Hercules information. The first Hg models have an IXA engine which had a 3 inch bore. There were not too many of them. Then they switched to the IXK which has a 3.-1/8 inch bore. That engine was superceeded by the IXB in February of 1950. The IXB is a 3-1/4 inch bore motor. Mr Marris is giving you the correct information when he said there was not much difference in the HG and the OC-3. To compound some of that a little more, many of the OC-3 improvements were offered as kits to update your HG. The 3 means the engine had 3 timing gears. They also made the IX series with an engine with 5 timing gears. I did a little research the other year for another tractor cluch and Hercules made that engine for over 20 years. Questions?

That is right tracks measure 42 center to center. It is an IXK-3 and it does have a water pump, which, from what I gather was produced from 49 to 51. That would place the tractor within that time period assuming the engine was never exchanged. Correct?

O. K. None of the IXK engines had water pumps from the factory. I have a friend and his father started as a dealer toward the end of World War -2. They sold a lot of HG tractors. One of there methods of overhaul was to bore the IXK to the 3.250 IXB engine. This also included adding a water pump. Do you have an engine serial number? Also look behind the mag there will be a casting date for the engine there

I have recently aquired a CO-3 HG 68" tractor. I measured the track width from center to center as you all have eluded to. I do'nt know where to find the tractor sn#. I have found the engine SN# but is there a number for the chassis. I also need some tin parts (ie, grill, hood, breather). Also could use a color scheme.
Kdr.

Did you mean OC-3. Remember the OC-3 is one model the Hg is another model. What is the serial number and model of the engine? HG tractors before 1947 were Cletrac range. after that Hg and early OC-3 were a darker Oliver green. After that the Oc-3 was industrial yellow.
