Thanks Tom. Where does that information come from? We had been told it was late 60's. I'm sure your right however.

Also, do you know what the "H" stands for?

I do not have the book with me but mine is kind a generic book that covers tractors and other equipment of all makes up to 1980 or so. There are several serial number books available. ACMOC sells one I know.

Cat started using letters to denote upgrades sometime back in the '50's. The first 955 with the letter designation was the 955C which came out in about 1955. There was no official A or B. I have a '50 HT4 loader. There is very little difference between it and the 955C. Improvements were made in bucket tilt angle, hydraulic system and I think the 955C had a 2 speed reverse. If I had my book I could tell you when the D,E,F,and G models were introduced.

We recently purchased this old machine. It works well but has no brakes. It appears that it uses an air over hydraulic system. Can anyone offer testing and repair methods for this machine?

Tom, again many thanks.

Our 955H does have a two speed forward and two speed reverse powershift Transmission. Its got the clamshell blade/bucket and a Hyster 35,000# winch. I wish we had a side-tilt blade, but no.

Again, thanks.

Dave
