TD 24 head cracks

I recently bought a 1955 TD 24 crawler in less than perfect condition. Didn't pay much and hoping I can fix the old girl up "one more time". After messing around with batteries, rebuilding distributor and carb got it running on gas then switched to diesel OK. Shortly after starting noticed light blue smoke coming from vent at top of radiator. Ran it just long enough to load it. From talking with others these machines were noted for head crack problems. I suspect cracked head or heads here. Can anyone describe where they crack and if they can be repaired? Would a compression test before disassembly be of any value in determining which cylinders have cracks or will it be obvious? I'm sure many other people have been down this road and a little advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Two comments, yes they crack and not all cracks are harmfull. When you get them off have them pressure tested, then you will know what you have.
