I just tore apart my left had steer clutch because it would not steer, it would drive ok, but when you pulled the handle it would not disengage.

I put it back together with new fibres, and re-used the steels, now it will not drive at all. The inner part of the steer clutch is turning when you look inside the inspection hole. Is it possible that I need to add another fibre?

Clearly the clutch is spinning, and the track turns free, when I turn the track, the entire steer clutch assmebly turns, so I know there is nothing bound up in there, so I am thinking the new clutches are slipping?

Please help, hopefully someone has a fix before I remove the final again..... ...

Dave

Depending on which fiber discs you used, I would guess that the discs you used are for 420 and later, they are about .030 thinner than MC discs. If so, you have no clutch pressure. Also, you must adjust the fingers on the pressure plate before reinstalling the final drive.

thanks for the reply

If I did get the wrong disks, how many more would I need to add to equal the correct thickness? and how do I determine how tight to set the clutch fingers.

I ahve done this job before on another MC and di not have any of these issues, so I was a little surprised the repair did not work

Thanks
Dave

You will need to add one steel and one fiber to get back to the correct thickness. You use a JD7 gauge to set the fingers on the pressure plate. I have them if you want one.

Dave,
The gauge is $10 + freight. I put my e-mail in this time, just e-mail me, or go to my website.
