I'm looking at a long distance buy and trying to figure if transfer pump is bad. He says both hoe and loader will barely move, but it will trailer unassisted. I e-mail him about reverser and he replied "what's that?" Didn't all these machines come with reverser? Would I be able to tell from serial#?

My JD500 acted the same way until it was sugested I change the filters and the problem went away. I was surprised that the filters clogged up quickly. One day fine and the next a slow hydraulics. My $0.02.

No, they did not all come with reversers. A hydraulic reverserer or a hi-lo were both options. Some 300s had neither - just two manual sticks and a dry engine clutch. One stick had gear drive high, low, and reverser, and the other had gear drive four ranges.
