My John Deere 450C Crawler has a push button on the dash that is wired to what I believe is the injector pump on the left side of the engine. I've looked in the manual but so far haven't found out what it does. I tried pressing the button and can't tell that anything happens. Does anyone know what this button does?
Thanks for any replies.

Deere never had a push button wired to the injection pump. THe push button is energized by the IGN terminal of the ignition switch and is used to crank the starter.

Thanks jd. THis is a pushbutton other than the starting button. Maybe it once was connected to a horn that is no longer on the tractor. I think I better take another look at both sides of this pushbutton and see if maybe there is no connection on the load side or maybe a cut off wire heading towards where a horn used to be. Thanks for the time you have given is responding. You are obviously a wealth of information.

IF YOUR'S IS WIRED LIKE MINE AND THE BUTTON IS ON THE LOWER LIFT CORNER OF THE DASH THEN IT MAY THE HORN BUTTON. IF YOU KNOW WHERE THE WIRE GOES YOU CAN CHECK THIS WITH A TESTING ICE PICK LIGHT. GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it was the horn initially but I believe I traced the wire to the injector pump. Maybe I got crossed up somewhere but there is definately a wire going to the top of the pump. Should there be and what would it do?

The wire to the top of the pump is what turns it on or off and is wired to the IGN terminal of the ignition switch. It activates a fuel shut-off solenoid inside the pump cover.

could this be the cold start ether inject button? mine has the valve under the dash on the right hand side. like jd says the wire to the top of the pump is wired to the ign terminal, if it was wired to a pushbutton you would have to keep the button pushed to keep it running.
