What help/suggestions can you give me regarding the purchase of a used backhoe for ditching and material moving. Pretty handy and familiar with farm equipment etc. but know nothng about bachoes. Recently bought more land, mostly too wet now and needs some draining. I can spend about $15000 maybe little more hopefully a little less. Thanks guys.

I bought a 1975 Ford 4500 TLB a year ago for $6100. Gear tranny, no torque converter (fewer problems), no cab. Passed on a Case 580 in great shape for $10,000. Saw a JD trackhoe go on a tiler's auction for $7xxx. For 15 grand you can get a great machine for your own use. Tile plow is another option- pull it with a big 2wd or 4wd. Still need a backhoe to make connections to the mains.

i've had good luck with older case equipment. done alot of repairs, but had alot of good service from em also. the best thing i can tell you tho is be careful, im not sure what state you live in, but here in pa there have been alot of horror stories over draining wet lands whether they're actually classified wetlands or not. bottom line...do your homework, or keep it quiet.

Depending what type of tractor you already have you can get one that will hook up to one of them. If you just plane want one on a tractor then all I can say if buying used look at all the pins and bushings for wear.
