With a light or no load in front bucket steering works well. When there is more than a half load in front bucket front steer wheels won"t turn. Steering wheel just rotates with little or no front wheel movement. Has anyone seen this before?

The 580D that I had didn't have a seperate pump for the power steering. I had the same problem with my machine. You need to get the steering cylinders rebuilt. The oil is bypassing in the cylinders which causes the loss of steering.

First do a steering cylinder bypass test-sounds like you have one blown cyl.
Steering pump is geared to the engine, however there is filter and relief valve inside the resevoir.Remove the acorn nut slightly to drain then remove resevoir. Can be kinda pain with starter but can be done.

Saw that just the other day on a 580B but that was with an empty bucket. Found that there was little or no fluid in the steering resivor. That may be your problem, low fluid in the steering or you may have a belt slipping or your pump is going bad.
