I have a JD2010 Dozer, great machine. I was just wondering if anyone has ever mounted a snowblower to the rear of their dozer. Some units do have the PTO and 3 point hitch. I thought I might give it a try. We've been getting a lot of snow here in Nova Scotia this year, and it's really starting to pile up!

Just a throw in but wouldn't a bigger clamp on type push blade be better-sure alot less back pain-plus an operator enclosure too-like I said just a throw in.

You probably would do better with a wheeled machine. Tracks are going to limit you to unpaved areas only. If your machine can be made to travel slowly enough in reverse, it'd probably work OK. How's the traction and side slipping on your machine in snow? These would be important items to consider.

Slipping sideways is big problem where I live. I'm on a side of a mountain. If it's cold enough, any of my dozers will skid like they're on ice-skates. Having the front-mounted self-powered snowblower does work nicely though - it will throw the snow quite a distance and works much better than the PTO powered 3 point hitch snowblower I have for my wheel tractors. Problem with most of my wheel tractors is - they don't go as slow as I'd like, and engine RPM is directly related to PTO RPM. There are times I want to speed up the PTO and slow down the wheel speed - but that doesn't happen with a gear transmission. I also don't like going backwards all the time. With the Wisconsin powered front-mounted snowblower, it runs full bore regardless of my ground speed. It IS awful heavy though. As already mentioned, a PTO powered hydraulic pump hooked to a hydraulic motor on the snowblower is probably the way to go as long as the pump is big enough to run the snowblower at low PTO speeds. But, all that stuff cost money and I'm cheap.

The machine seems to have very good traction and the area I am clearing is not paved and has very no side-slopes to be concerned about. I have been using it for snow clearing and it works great. I just thought that the blower would be a neat addition

I always thought it would be cool to build a jackshaft from the PTO down and under the belly of the machine to run a front blower that you could mount on the loader or blade frame and lift it up and down. I have read that there is mounting holes on the end of the crankshaft for front mounting driven attachement but then you would have to build a clutch. With the PTo setup you would only have to have the jackshaft and a driveshaft. Just a thought.

Several companys have made or still make front sno-blowers powered this way...

They even make, blowers for 4wd 4 wheelers with the motor in the back, and a drive shaft that goes foreward and under to a front blower.

I would think that a rear mounted (3 pt.) blower would be a real bear to operate after any amount of time; either crawler or wheeled. My neck gets sore just thinking about it. I like jdemaris' idea. How about instead of the Wisconsin using a hydraulic motor with the pump mounted on the pto?

A friend of mine uses one all the time on a 420C with a 3PT, but he has a Vee type that you drive forward into the snow. Real common in this are years ago, Erskine made them as well as a couple of other manufacturers.

Sorry for being off the topic and nice crawler by the way, but I am looking at both a 1010 and a 440 and would like to know what your opinion of the 2010 is. Will leave email open
Thanks
Brent

Brent,

This is my first crawler. I had a MF 50 Backhoe before this machine. I really like to 2010c. It amazes me what this machine can do, especially considering it's compact size. I worked it a lot the past summer. Cutting a road through my property. About 1/2 a mile done so far. I know someone with a 1010, it's a very similar looking machine, but has a much lighter rear. His machine works good as well, but does not seem to have the stump pushing power that the 2010 does. Hope this helps.

2010 is a lot more machine than the 1010, I've got both. Especially if the 2010 has the HL-R transmission. 1010 more or less became the 350, whereas the 2010 became the 450. Engines in the 1010s and 2010s are basically the same, 2010 just usually a little bigger bore. Actually, a 2010 gas engine is the same bore and stroke as a 1010 diesel. Back to the snowblower question - I run a snowblower on the front of my dozer. I just pull up to it and clip it on to my front blade - but it's self powered with a Wisconsin V-4. I live half way up a mountain though, and if it's icy out, I'm not brave enough to use the dozer. Slides sideways like an ice-skate - even even with ice spuds on the grousers.
