This is my first post on this forum.. Id like to say that it sure is a busy place, with alot of info changing hands. I hope that not only can I get information here but that maybe I can help. I recently perchased a ford back hoe. Its an old critter, with a 724 hoe and Im not sure what front loader, that is my first question. 1)Where is the tag located to identify the loader, and what are some of the loaders that might be on this Ford 4000. Its 4cl. gas, with a marvel shebler TSX 813 carb.Im guessing '62-'64. 2) Is there a filter for the hydraulics? if so, where is it at? 3)The resivour seems to be in the loader frame upright. What is the correct level?

I think you've got your numbers mixed up. Hoe should be a 723, and the loader is 724. I've got a similar machine, 1963 Ford 4000 industrial loader/backhoe model 41301S ser. # 18114 with gas engine - Red Tiger 172 cubic inches. Also has the MS TSX 813 carb. Sherman aux. transmission and 724 loader and 723 hoe. The hydraulic resevoir is in the loader frame and the filter is in the bottom of the frame where the return hose hooks to it. There is a screen inside there.

jdemaris, Thanks for the reply. Its late here so I wont go into detail, but how do you like your machine? What level do you fill the hydraulics to?
This old machine appears to have some water in the system, or is low enough for the return to be stirring air into the system?
I better quit.LOL

I like mine very much. A farmer friend had it since new and did some amazing things with it over the years. It's not very rugged, but, is very powerful for it's size, in both horsepower and hydraulic force. I've got three hoes, but the little Ford is the best for getting into tight places, or for having the best traction. I curse the hoe controls at times since they are different from all my other hoes. But, once on it for little while I get used to it. On the 724 loader, you check hydraulic level on the left side (your left when sitting on the seat). There's a filler cap/breather on the top of the loader-frame tower. Take the cap off, and proper level is 13 1/2" down from the top. At the bottom of the same tower is the drain and filter. Total capacity for the loader is 9 1/2 gallons. Total capacity with the 723 hoe attached is 15 gallons with the 10' hoe or 16 gallons with 12' hoe. My 4000 has the 724 loader and 723 hoe - but there are other front loaders. There's a 703, 725, 720, and a 712. Most 723 hoes take oddball ends on the hydraulic hoses. You can buy adapters to convert them all to a redily availble end.
