Hi, just bought an old (1973) 3d mk 2 to do odd jobs around the garden (honest) and saw this site.

I've got a couple of questions :
1) I'm after things like a decent technical and parts manual so if anyone knows where to pick this up I'd be grateful.
2) Is there somewhere else that is worth checking out for discussion of this beast or do people think that this is the best.
3) I'm about to tackle the brakes this weekend which should prove interesting. Any one got any gotchas I should know about :-)
4) Does anyone know a good place to pick up second hand buckets from ?

Stuart

Keep an eye on Ebay, other than that do a search on the net, a JCB dealer may be able to help you.

I am in the UK and you could call it JCB country, lots of JCB"s here, the JCB 3C was more popular than the 3D with the contractors, the D was a bit heavier but much the same, good strong reliable machine, easy started and simple to work on,the worst job is the gearbox as it is with any tractor, the clucth could be replaced in a couple of hours because the bellhousing was in two halves, take off the top half to replace the clutch,no splitting, the brakes were never what one would great as they are inboard from the wheels,to adjust them you need a 3/4 deep socket, lift the machine up on the jacks, you will find the brake drum just in front of the back axle in by the diff, the adjusting nut is in the middle of the linkage brackets, tighten them up till they lock and back off one turn,to replace the disks, floor plate out, disconnect the linkage, remove the cover from the drum and there you find two discs with one actuator in the middle on each side.can"t help with the buckets but any bucket will do if you can change the hangers.

Hi AJ
I'm in the UK as well.
Thanks for the hints about the brakes, very useful. I think I've found a bucket on ebay so we'll see how it goes.
Any ideas about where to get a manual from ? Would JCB be a likely source ?

Stuart
