I would like to remove my pony motor from my D4 7U and put a starter on the big motor, I seen one on a D4 but the guy said it was on there when he bought it. Does anybody know where I can get the kit or plate to put in when the pony motor is removed, the starter was mounted in the rear of the motor. There are no holes on the side of mine to mount a starter in. Thanks.

I've put two of the 24volt starters on my d4 cats. The first one didn't have the boss on the bell housing so I made a cardbord pattern off my other d4 which was newer and cut the hole with my plazma cutter and drilled and tapped the holes to fit a 4omt truck starter an got the drive from an outfit in Taxas and put it on and it works fine Later on the mag drive went out of the other d4 so I did the same thing to it and it works fine also, You leave the starter drive on as on mine I would have had to take the fuel control housing apart so I just cut the pinnion handle off and removed the starting engine an plugged the water holes an put two OPTAMA 12v batteries where the starting engine was.

Hi Kenny, was surfing the net looking for parts to repair the pony on my sons Cat D4C. He put extensive repair in the cat, and we have problems starting the pony. Looks like a blown head gasket again. I am interested in learning more on how you did your conversion. If you could furnish us with pictures and a step by step detail, we would be glad to pay you for your information. Larry and Micah in Maine.
Reach me at larryberube@yahoo.com Thanks.
