Anyone had any experience with 4 or 6 wheelers, like jd gators, or cub cadet or polaris, which ones are better. I plan to plow snow with it and use it for doing landscaping around the property. They seem expensive, are they worth it ?

only problem i have seen with gators is with the belt drive and water (plowing snow etc) with the heat of the motor the belt likes to slip and when sheded freezes. not a huge problem if the belt is tight but some people extremely hard pulls they have problems. also biggest problem concern i see is people who wrongly or who dont adjust the slag clutches often or correctly. adjusting them often and correctly is a must. the yanmar diesel is an unbeatable motor. i have seen gators with 8,000 hours on them that run like new out of landscapers who ride them very hard. i dont know if you want to pull things, ground driven manure spreader etc a heck of a 4x4 that if i was to purchase a 4 wheeler would be the polaris diesel those are very good machines. i do understand you said you were wanting to landscape so your probably looking for something w/a dump box on it. but something a little cheaper honestlyw ill pry go just as far as a gator in mud snow etc is the polaris diesel. those are excellent machines as well. i see bobcat has a "gator" not obviously a gator but you know what i mean. i have not driven one or worked on one however i hear again i hear they have hydraulic drive motors for power to the wheels which i would think could very well be very fast powerful and relativly no slipping. also i know one of there models has all wheel steer on it price and durability no clue. i dont know how there standard models compare pricewise to deere either my guess is pry cheap kubota usually seems to be a little at least. i dont think bobcat offers a 6x6 or 6x4 though i think they are all 4x4 and 2x4 but again no experience with them whatsoever so i dont know much about them jsut what i have heard

small 2wd/4wd gas kawasaki mule"s are somewhat <
br>underpowered, diesels arevery powerfull and
manuverable, gators are larger and lower cg most
have good power. only polaris i have seen are 6x6 and
a little long with turning radius being a problem. <
br>Kubota have not used but heard they are powerful and have some attachments, same for bobcat, and IR

Have '96 6-wheel JD Gator, knobby tires; terrain here all up hill or down hill but Gator will go ANYWHERE! made chains for snow use; never been in for repairs, original battery,2 cyl Koehler gas engine, ample power for heavy hauling or pulling; plastic fenders don't stand up very well; (should have bought elec cargo box dump feature).Expensive but has been worth every dollar we paid for it. We've got a Polaris Sportsman 6X6 and a Polaris Ranger 6X6. Both are amazing machines. We use the Sportsman to pull a chain drag to level our horse riding arena with no problems, and the Ranger is used to get around muddy logging roads and seems impossible to get stuck. I have been very impressed with both machines. The Sportsman we have had for about 5 years and in that time all I've had to do is replace the battery once, replace the starter switch, and replace the brushes in the starter motor. The Ranger has not had any problems yet, but we've only had it for about three years. Hope that helps.

Bob,

We use a 1997 Honda 4x4 on the horse farm to pull a ground driven manure spreader. Its got a single cylinder 300 cc engine. Its been run hard, really hard, but it continues to run well with a minimum of maintainence. I replaced a bearing in the rear but thats about it other than batteries and brakes.

They used to use this machine to pull a chain drag. It would do it but it was hard on the machine.

Overall I recommend the Honda.

John
