I have a cat 930 payloader, it ran great on my way to site ,but soon as I started loading the topsoil the machine would hardly back up, even in first gear it ran as if in fourth, I even had to push it back with the upturned bucket to get out of the burrow pit. I noticed that I had inadvertently overfilled the transmission oil, could this be the cause of the slugishness, or are the valves blocked, do I need to consider overhauling the tranny, where do I start ,please help. Ini

Start by changing the trans filter and cutting the old one open. If it's full of metal you have to overhaul the trans but I don't think it will be that bad. Then check your trans linkages are free and getting completely into F&R aswell as all speeds. Next thing to do would be a complete trans pressure test. Two 600 psi gauges and hoses hooked to the trans valve under the small cover and read pressures in all speeds and directions should tell you, you have low pressure in the reverse clutch. There are 1/8 NPT plugs in there you want the ones marked P1 & P2. Come on back.
