I have a hd-6g crawler ,the drive clutch previously worked fine, now it doesn't always disengage totally. It seems to have freeplay. Any help would be appreciated.

The HD 6G has an overcenter clutch in the bellhousing. If the pressure plate adjustment is too tight it might not release properly. Also, the linkage bushings may have enough slop in them that, by the time the action reaches the overcenter unit, all the play has been absorbed in the lever motions thereby not giving adequate tension to release the overcenter unit. One more thought, you didn't mention whether or not the unit is not disengaging while traveling or if it only does it in neutral when trying to remesh a gear. If the later, it could be the adjustment that pushes the throwout bearing assembly against the ring at the back of the drive shaft assembly inside the bellhousing. There is a fibered plate that is rivited to the throw out assembly that acts like a brake in order to stop the shaft from turning when the tranny is in neutral.

Thankyou Curt for the info. I was working on the crawler yesterday and I found the pump for the clutch was seized and the drive coupler was in two pieces. I`ve since repaired the pump and coupler and expect to install it later today. I think this was the problem. What do you think?
