Put Autolite 216 plugs in it. Clean the dirt out of the fuel sediment bowl and clean the screen while you have the tools out. If it still misses the bushing in the distributor is likely worn letting the shaft wobble. Now point gap and timing is all over the place.

I loved my 420 till the final drive busted,, then it was a money pit. It was a lil power house for its size, but like all JD equipment parts are pricey,, I sold mine with teh busted final drive for 900, it had a blade on it and a "cab" Ran great and the guy actually drove it up on the trailer,, took some time loading since you could move forward 6 feet then back up 4 and then ahead again, took a while but he loaded it,,,JIm

Sounds like a real good deal to me. I paid that for one with a #62 blade with a stuck engine. I got it loose and been using it the last 2 years.

Most likely has a fouled sparkplug or bad/loose wire. At worst a stuck valve.
