580CK or 530 torque converter gasket on flywheel?

I've got the engine out of my 580CK. It has torque-converter drive similar to my 530. Question is, there is a large ring on the outside of the torque-converter - may be rubber,
but it's so old it's now hard and brittle. My parts book and service manual lists it as a
"gasket between torque-converter and flywheel", but says nothing else. This one seems
to be broken since it has one gap in it and now looks like a big piston ring. But, I'm not
sure, maybe it was made that way. I have no idea what the function of this thing is. I can
see that the outer diameter of the ring will fit inside the recess of the flywheel when I put
the engine back it, but I can't see any purpose for it. So, now, not knowing, I'm hesitant to
put the engine back in until I know. Any input appreciated.

Sounds like a slinger, like to help control oil away from the seals?
I have 530 manuals but no 580 manuals.
What did you find it to be?
Dennis..... ..
