I spent several weeks troublshooting and otherwise working on a 150-5 back during the summer but I'm not at all familiar with the 300-3. I can say though that if yours is anything like the one I worked on there's not alot your gonna be able to do with the proper tools and manuals. The one I was working on took an odd ball sized metric fitting in the test ports that were "a few" dollars apiece, and there are so many different things to test and so many specs it'll make your head spin, so you almost have to have a maual to even think about working on it. It could be a computer/senser problem and if so it ought to flash you a code telling you what is wrong. If you do get a manual for it all the pressure readings in the manuals are gonna be in KPa so your gonna need to spend major amounts (about $65 apiece was the cheapest I found) of money for guages calculated with that odd a-- reading or do like I did and use standard "english" reading guages and then convert all the readings to KPa so you know if your pressures are right. I don't know where your located but you can call Mitchell Distrubuting in Charlotte, NC and ask for Dwight. He is their excavator specilist and should be able to help you if he's there. If he's in the field, Dewey, the shop forman is also pretty knowledgable. I spent hours in their office and on the phone talking to them when I was troubleshooting that 150 and they were both happy to help. In the end I wound up changing the main pumps to fix the initial problem it was having. Then had another problem just all of a sudden appear. After two solid weeks of troubleshooting and checking to find the cause if that problem it corrected itself overnight along with the travel alarm starting to work after 4 years of not working. Nobody I've talked to has any idea what caused the second problem or why/how it corrected itself but I'm sure not complaining and neither is my customer. Good Luck, you'll need it..... ..

Tom,
Before you do anything open the pump compartment door. You'll see a red handle on a pipe next to the pilot pump. Shift that handle the other way and try the machine again. The valve under the handle controls pilot oil. In the open position it lets pilot oil bypass to the suction side of the pump. This is used in extremely cold environments to take the load off the pump when you start the engine. Ninety nine times out of a hundred that will be the solution to the problem you describe. If that isn't the problem then most likely there is something wrong with the drive coupler between the first and second pump or the second pump and the pilot pump.

Nothing in the electronics will make the machine stop operating. I would be very suprised if the damper were broken. It looks like a clutch disk with no facings on it. The drive plate bolts to the flywheel and the center hub is held by springs.

I have worked on Komatsu excavators since 1990. If you have any questions post your contact information and we can talk.

Good Luck!

NC Wayne,
To convert KPA to PSI just multiply the KPA by 14.2 and that will give you PSI. The special fittings are a pain but I have taken the plugs, drilled a small hole through them and brazed a male JIC #4 fitting on top. There are only four test ports you have to be concerned with on a Dash 3 or Dash 5 Komatsu excavator.

Tom,

It sounds like the pump drive. Start the engine and listen for noise at the pumps.

I never did one on a Komatsu, but have on the older 235 Cats. They incorporate a rubber tipped flex plate between the engine and pump drive that wears out over time. When it strips out, all hydraulic functions cease. Check for an inspection hole or cover on bottom side of the bell housing that may let you see what is going on.

I hope this helps.

Good luck,
Scott
