I recently came across several dozen pictures of my Great grandfather when he was selling small dozer style tractors in the mideast and the orient in the teens and 20's. According to family legend he worked for the Cleveland Tractor Company. Was Cletrac the successor to the Cleveland Tractor Company and if so is there any historical infomation available about what products they might have been selling in that period? I have a set of his drafting tools and a Micrometer that he had to check the cylinders. Apparantly back then he was a trouble shooter as well as salesman. I would appreciate any and all info.

Rob,

Cletrac was the brand name of the crawlers made by the Cleveland Tractor Company in Cleveland, Ohio. There was one tractor (I think the first one they built) which went under the Cleveland brand. All after that were Cletracs. The Oliver Corporation bought Cletrac in 1944 and they became Oliver Cletracs. The Cletrac name was dropped (in 1951 I believe) and they became just plain Oliver. Go to www.cletrac.org

Also get in touch with the Cleveland, Ohio Public Library. They probably have lots of info there.

The web site "cletrac.org" for has some pictures and cletrac related stuff.
Check out Barnes and Nobles for a book titled: "CLETRAC AND OLIVER CRAWLERS PHOTO ARCHIVE"

The Hart Parr Oliver Collectors Association may have the info or a lead for you.
Good Luck.
