I have a 40C with the front blade, single lift cylinder, and 3 PT hitch. I have an ancient Deere 2 spool valve that only works on 1 side. It also leaks like crazy and I've about had it with this one. I'm looking for a 2 spool vlave body and see Nothern Hydraulics has a couple of items. I basicly need to know if I have to order an open or closed center control. I can never remember which is which.

I recently picked up a 40C with aftermarket three point. It would be interesting to see a picture of yours to compare with mine. Mine has some 420C 3 pt features and some shop built components. I am posting a picture of mine in the tractor photo gallery.

Open Center. You don't want any hydraulic resistance unless you are activating a spool.

Thanks Possum. I kind of figured that was the answer but greater minds than mine exist here!
