How wrong is my D6C service manual?

I just purchased a service manual on Ebay that was purported to cover D6C series' 10K, 23U,..., 99J. I just received it yesterday and find that the Lubrication and Maintenance Guide, the portion of the manual I wanted most, covers 99Js only from #99J1754 and up. I have 99J1322. Does anyone know how much I can rely on this guide? (It was printed 4-75.) How different might the 99J1322 be?

It should be fairly close. The oils they call for are a bit different now. They used to use series 3 in everything. Now you can use multigrade 10W30 diesel engine oil in the Engine and Hyd Tank. Sae 50 in the Final Drives but use Cat TDTO4 or equivilent in the Powershift Trans or Trans and Flywheel Clutch if it's direct drive.

Thanks, Bob.

I've think I've learned something about the engine diffences. Apparently mine has a 125 HP D333C, which is nevertheless commonly referred to as a 3306. (I hope it is truly the same as a 3306.) The maintenance & lube instructions for the later 3306 140HP turbo engines shouldn't be grossly different.

Do you know if early and late 99Js have any undercarriage and drivetrain differences (other than engine) that I might need to know about?

I will look into it Brewster. The D333C is very similar to the 3306. The block is the same, the oil pump is slightly different as is the oil filter, 3306 has a spin on. The most noticable difference is the timing cover and cyl head. They where changed to take the new water pump. The fuel system was changed to sleeve metering but not on the very first ones I think. I am again taxing my memory here but around the time of the engine change I think the engine had it's own serial# and was assigned an arrangement# The arrangement# refered you to the specific components used on the engine in your machine. The machine and engine serial and arrangement#'s are on the machine plate when engine and machine didn't share the same serial#.
