I have a Michigan loader that has a Detroit Diesel. Where can I look on the engine to see which engine this is? thanks,

It's most likely either a 53 or 71 series engine. If the valve cover plate is missing, and 90% of the time they are,here's where to look. For the 53 series look on the right side of the block in the upper rear corner, just below the deck. You should see two numbers. The model number will consist of two sets of four numbers, and the other number will be the actual serial number. On a 71 series look for the same type numbers only they should be on the right hand side in the upper, front corner, right below the deck. With these numbers you can call your local dealership and they can tell you for sure what you have. If they can't let me know and I'll look it up for you in one of my books.

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find a tag on the valve cover. I will look for the block numbers.

should be a plate on the valve cover. You did not say what size you had it maybe a 4-53 or 4-71 or any of the V's
