Fellas, I"m doing some repairs on the swing cylinders on this hoe and need some info before I tear it down. I have two questions. 1) where can I get the manual on this hoe? 2) does anyone have the parts blowup picture of the swing section that could email it to me?
Ive been looking for the manual but havent found one. I think I can repair what I need to repair if I can just see how all of the apperatus is supposed to go together.
Thanks,
spud in mo

I think all the manuals are still available direct from Ford-New Holland. I've got the original owners manuals for the 723 and 724 backhoe and loader along with the 4000 Industrial tractor book. I also have the original parts manuals - but the parts manuals are on microfiche. That being the case, I don't have a good way of printing out pages, scanning, etc. The owners manuals I have in print form. 723 owners manual is SE 08678-A and has several photos or drawings, but nothing detailed about the swing. So, either I can look something up for you on my microfiche reader - or, if you really get stuck - I could find someplace that has a microfiche printer and print out a few pages. If I do that, you pay the expense.

JD, What I need to know is how the cylinders mount in the framework of the main structure. does the cylinder have two pins that it pivots on, in the center of the barrel? Or is it some other arrangement. If it is a two pin arragement, is it bushinged, bearinged? How does this hook into the main structure? (I think I already said that...) I have the operators manual coming from this web site, but like most I like to have some idea what Im gettin into before I jump. To get the parts manual Ill have to find another than the local dealership to do bussiness with.. They pulled a cute little stunt on me... Another story..LOL

I sent you a couple of photos I just took with a digital camera off my microfiche reader screen. It's not the best way to do this, but I think you can make out the parts. If you can't repost, or answer my email. I inverted the image (changed it from a negative to a postive). I've had a miserable time getting parts for my 1963 Ford 4000 Industrial tractor with 723 and 724 hoe and loader. Dealers just about always get me the wrong parts -that because they look it up wrong. So, I finally convinced an old Ford dealer to sell me all his old microfiche. I gave him $30 for the whole lot. It's been a lifesaver. I recently needed front drag-link ends. I called two dealers, and both swore up and down that there are no optional ends for industrial - just the standard 4000 part for all tractors with power steering - #309951. With my parts fiche, I found lots of options and the number What I actually need is CONN3A300A. Went back to Ford, it's still a good number, but they want $90 apiece. So, now that I have the number, I'm searching aftermarket. I wish I knew of a place that listed such parts by actual size. My drag-link ends have 13/16" X 16 left hand thread, and the tapered pin has to be 2" long and 5/8" diameter at the small end.

jdemaris,

I also have a '63 Ford 4140 HD Industrial with 723 hoe and a 712 SD Loader. It is in the process of a rebuild. See picture. The photo is a bit out of date, the frame rails, engine cradle, front end are now all Ford Blue and together and parts of the loader are on the rails. The front axle also now has new king pins, bushings, o-rings and grease fittings. It only had painted over broken off ones before. That probably explains the 1/8" of slop...

I have the Ford parts book and the service manual, but there is a lot of "stuff" missing! One of my next tasks is to rebuild/ reseal the power steering column. But my service manual only covers the earlier cable steer versions. Would you be able to either photo the microfich or get printouts? I would pay if printouts are needed!

My email is open, please pop me a line.

John Bud
