Finally got my 580c to my place. Like to fiddle around a bit with it this weekend. Trouble is, I'm not sure how to check the hyd fluid. Need to know what kind I'll need also. Will regular case tch fluid work? On the left side, below the loader hinge point, there is a sight glass and a plug (about 1 1/2 " in dia). Is this the fluid level and fill point? Thanks much fellas....foz

Yes, the glass is the level glass for your hyd. system and the plug is where you add oil. Not positive, but believe TCH will work. An owners manual is a wealth of info on other lubes and places to check level. Get a manual through dealer, this site, or Ebay.

Thanks Burton, You're right, about a manual. Got one on the way. I'm just itching to try it out is all. I'm not new to operating a hoe, just unfamiliar with an old C model.

you can also fill at the the breather plug (if there is on at the top of the loader lift frame, also the level is checked with the hoe in the upright locked position and loader down and front bucket level on the ground.Power shuttle oil is checked with engine running and in neutral.Just a note here on locking the hoe, stabilizers down, bring engine rpms up slightly, lower bown a bit, pull back on boom lever to raise, and just at the locking point when the lock goes to slip over the pin, quickly push boom lever to down position, the boom will go into the lock position.

thanks agri, Knew about the boom locking trick. I had thought that was the way to check the fluid, but it sure is nice to hear from someone that knows for sure. Now I'm trying to find an up close picture of the extend a hoe. Who ever had it before me must have had his head up his..... well you know, when he replaced hoses. There ain't no way these are on right. Whenever you raise the dipper all the way up you would cut the hoses to the extending cylnder.Got 'em all wrong at the bottom of the swing tower too.. I might not know just how they go yet, but;they can't operate the way they are and last very long!
