I am looking for the right machine for my brush clearing/road building projects on the farm/wood lot this summer and I came across a machine advertised not too far from me. It's a 1975 Cat D6C with winch and hydraulic tilt. The owner says it has about 60% undercarriage and runs real strong. He also has a brush rake he could attach for me at an extra cost. I'm going to have a local diesel mechanic (who supposedly knows cats) take a close look at it for me. If this machine is strong and servicable with no apparant major problems does anyone have an idea of what would be a good price range to pay for it?

I am a hoe/excavator operator and i'm looking forward to seeing what this dozer will get done for me on my farm this summer. Thanks for any help!

I have been pricing tractors this size in my area (mid. missouri). The sixty percent under-carriage worrys me.That usually means that there is nothing left. You can buy a really good tractor for $20,000 . I looked at a d-5 two weeks ago that had a completly new under carriage . Final drives and all for $25,000 and I thought that it was a bit pricy. The only thing that was old was the front idler. It had power shift ,tilt and a factory ROP but no turbo.

Thanks for the reply. I had a look at the MachineryTrader.com for a price guide and it looks as if the average is between the low $20k to the low $30k. The machine I’m looking at is advertised at $17k. That sounds reasonable if the condition checks out?

I live in Washington State and have about 40 acres to clear of brush and small trees. I also need to build some roads around the place. I’m thinking the brush rake is stout enough to root out small stumps.
Not alot of time to make repairs and that scares me a bit. It's difficult to see how I could rent as my dozer work is rather sporadic during different times of the year. My website is www.baunach.com then go to “Dennis & Lorrie” page

Thanks again for the info,
Dennis
