I HAVE AN IH TD18A 182 SERIES THAT I LOVE TO PLAY WITH. I HAVE SEEN A 181 SERIES WITH THE EXTRA RADIATOR RESERVOIR THAT THE OWNER IS WILLING TO GIVE ME BECAUSE THE 181 DOESN'T RUN. WOULD THIS BE ADVISABLE OR DID IH FIX THE HEAD CRACKING PROBLEM ON THESE MACHINES WITH THE 182 SERIES? I HAVE HEARD THE HEADS CRACK SOMETIMES WHEN THE MACHINES ARE AT TOO STEEP OF AN INCLINE AND THERE ISN'T ENOUGH WATER TO COVER ALL CRITICAL PARTS.

Hector is right, the biggest cause for cracked heads is improper startup/ shutdown. You absolutely must allow it to cool down at an idle for several minutes after you've been working. There were improvements made, but they didn't eliminate the problems. The extra resevoir won't hurt, they're just ugly. What kind of blade setup does yours have? Mine is down with serious steering clutch problems...

GARY: MINE HAS THE CABLE BLADE WITH THE CABLE SHACKLE IN THE CENTER. THE 181 HAS THE CABLE SET UP WITH TWO ARMS, BOTH WITH CABLES TO THE BLADE. MY LEFT STEERING CLUTCH AND BRAKES NEEDS ADJUSTMENT FOR THE REVERSE STEERING, ALL 3 OTHER DIRECTIONS WORK FINE. THANKS, LAYNE
