I found a good deal on an older Komatsu PC 100, but everything in the cab is written in japanese. Exterior markings are in english. Are parts for this machine the same as any other, or can there be a problem? I've heard conflicting stories. Thanks.

What dash series is the PC100? Dash 1, Dash 3, Dash 5 or Dash 6. On the early ones if you can get a part number you can get the part. The Dash 6 models have some differences between gray and domestic so there are serial number breaks.

The PC100 is the same basic machine as the PC120. They usually have a little less horsepower but the engine, hydraulic pump and control valve are the same. There may be some differences in the length of the undercarriage and number of rollers but the components will be the same for each Dash series.

Komatsu never made the big stink about gray market and all the dealers that I have dealt with are happy to sell you parts and service.

Good Luck

If you go to your local dealer and get a NA. serial no. from a same make and year built more times then not the part will be the same. If the grey machine uses a different engine than the NA. ones or is even a different pump make look on the internet for importers of grey market machines. There are a bunch and most are very helpful getting you the correct part no. for your machine. With the correct part no. quite often then your local dealer can get the parts within days. I have 2 greys and have never waited longer than 2 days for parts. The Hitachi I have the engine is different than the NA. ones and with the right part no. I got a thermostat and valve cover in 2 days. Good luck. Kevin

The best thing to do is take the serial number and call your local dealer. They should be able to tell you wether it's a grey market machine or not. Even if it's "American assembled" you can bet that the majority of parts you'll need for it will origionate in Japan. I just had a spring for a PC-150 back ordered to Japan with no ship date in site. Fortunately it was a piece on a customers machine I was wanting to replace as a CYA precaution and not something I was in dire need of, so I was able/forced to use the old one and pray.
