the red warning light on the dash has started to flash or just stays on. what is this a warning of?
everything seems to operate the same, will it hurt anything to run with this light on? thanks to all for what you do on this site. ps: it's a 1980 dozer.

Like Roy said it should not have had a light originally, but someone might have added one later.I installed a light on my own 450 that will come on if oil pressure is low,and also added one to come on if the charging system is not putting out volts, that way if a belt were to break it will let me know and reduce the chance of running till the engine over heats.I have never liked the idiot lights as they call them in an automobile but they will grab your attention quick. Gauges will let you know exactly what is going on with your engine but they are easily overlooked if something goes wrong until it is sometimes too late.I like using the lights and gauges, kind of fool proof that way.Regardless of what your red light is for if it is on then I would not run the machine at all until you tracked the wiring down and see what it is supposed to be for.

I worked for a Deere Dealer when the 450-C came out.. I don't remember a warning light on the dash board. The 450-C had gauges, no lights.. 310 and 410 Backhoes had a light for charging system.Maybe someone installed their own warning system on this machine....
