TD14 Steering Clutch problem

Gentlemen - This is not my usual board but I have always found expert advice on all the boards here at YTmag. Here is my problem: I need to move some dirt for a building site. My neighbor has a TD14 that will run and go but the problem is the right clutch will not disengage. Worked OK about 4 years ago but not now. The left clutch operates normally but when you pull back on the right handle, it does not disengage. This might be a clue....The handle does not stop in the detent when pulled rearward like the right handle. Instead, I will come all the way back this it almost hits the seat. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks J

If the clutch is not stuck too bad you can try bumping a tree or some other immovable object with the lever pulled back. Sometimes this will break them loose. Also to the best of my knowledge there is no detent in the steering levers. I have worked on many of the TD series crawlers and never come across one with detents. The detent you are refering too may be an overcenter problem of some sort or just rust. If you end up having to pull the steering clutches out we have new discs available as well as some used parts. Be sure to check us out on the web at pdmechanical.com

PD - Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, you are right. The detent must be the disengaged-overcenter feel. I have operated this machine a long time ago. My memory isn't what it used to be.

Thanks

J

Try the IH Construction Equip section of Red Power Mag Sounds like clutch pack has stuck

Captian_Crunch - Thanks for the advice. I spent several hours last night going through the archives here before I posted my question. I also looked on the RedPower board. I think I can safely say the clutch is stuck. My question is "how to unstick it?" This is my retired neighbor"s military machine. Although he has said I can use it, he isn"t very interested in spending money to fix it. It is drivable as is but needs to me moved 6 miles to the building sight. I sure would like to be able to steer before hiring a truck to move it.

Thanks J

You can get it loaded by backing up and useing opposite steering clutch. What I have done is adjust steering clutch so the 4" free play is gone and work it and keep clutch pulled back if not stuck too badly the heat will sometimes cause it to free up But make sure you grease the steering clutch throw out bearing often while doing this. Grease fittings for this are under seat bolted to the deck and stick up slightly
