I am starting a quest to find and purchase a appropiately sized older crawler loader. i dont have any brand loyalty. My main concerne is that i need something i can transport on my deck over trailer. My trailer is rated at 12,800 pounds and it has a 16 ft long flat deck and a 3 ft beaver tail beyond the flat deck. i would like suggestions in the 6 to 9 thousand pound range, or info as to where one might find a web site with the weights of track machines listed. some machines i am considering are a case 310 and a jd 420 or 440. I'm afraid a td9 in the paper is too heavy. thank you in advance.

The Olivers should be fine but as you had mentioned the Case and the Deere's 40, 420, 440 and the 1010/2010 should work for you also. The 40, 420, 440 should all be about 9K or less depending on blade or bucket. The 1010/2010 will be about 1K heavier. I own a 1010 and pull it with a Ford F250 Super Duty with the Power Stroke engine. No big deal for the truck. Own a 16' trailer with 10K rating and it is at it's limits with this machine.
Hope I haven't muddied the water and helped some.

Heyas,

I am not sure of any dozers in the 6000 to 9000 lb range. You might want to work on getting a bigger trailer and truck
so you can get a decent sized dozer. I have a 21k lb triaxle trailer
for sale at $1800.

You suggested there is a td9 in your local paper? How much and where is it located? Maybe some contact info. I was thinking of
getting something a bit bigger, but if its not too far away, might as well take a look.

To gm and gary thanks. I will start looking at oliver info on computer. Also the td9 is located between williamsport and mansfield pa. asking 2000 with a clamshell bucket and replacement eng with low hours from a military gen set already installed. the add is listed in the lancaster farming mailbox markets which is available on line. I can not find my paper right now. It was in the sept 15th issue. I really like my little set up and dont want to go bigger. If i go any heavier with the truck I am considered a motor carrier vehicle and need inspections twice a year. also if i go any heavier with the trailer I must change the truck's title from 17000 gvw to a combined gross veh weigh of 27001 or more and pay for the heavier amount of truck plates and the trailer registation will double. The trailer is now registered for 9999 pounds but it is rated by the manufacturer at around 12850. I did not want to go the overloaded pick up route like so many I see out there, but I dont want to get any bigger than i am now either. thanks.

Take a look at Olivers. OC-4's or OC-46. My OC 46 has a three cyl diesel, but they were also built as gas versions . With loader it weighs 8000 lbs . It is 5 feet wide has a 5/8ths yard bucket and lifts 3000 + lbs nine feet 6 inches with the bucket level to the ground. It is a nice small machine. Parts are available thru several sources. There are many other guys with the same machine.
