I get fieldstone out and currently am using a JD455, The size is about right, but I am fixing to have to take mine down for overheating tansmission oil and some UC repairs, so I am fixing to have to purchase another one. I was wondering what would be a good machine for the job, I haul out about 2 ton per bucket and build my own roads when I go in. I have a JD and Case dealership close here in TN so parts are not a problem, getting someone to work on it, is though. Just wondering if JD is best or is there another better brand? Somewhere around the 80s model.

Just for your thinking, I have a really decent 1978 Case 1150B crawler loader that I could part with--I'm done with my work. It has teeth on the bucket, 4 forward and 4 reverse power shift, ROP, has had good care and is in good condtion. I would take $14,000 for it as that is what I have in it. If you are interested reply and I'll get the e-mail. Oh, it's located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin which isn't just too far away....

It's pretty hard to beat the JD450's... I think you already have the right machine for the job, especially since you have a JD dealer close by. Of course, Cat and Case make excellent machines, too. I would say, just fix the one you've got since it does the job for you. If you need something better, then bigger is usually better, but that comes at a price.

Find a good cat 955 track loader and your troubles are over, plus when you are done with it you can proably get most of your money back.
