This may be off the subject for this forum but I need some help. I am looking for transmission shift lever extensions called "cat handles" called for the shape they were, like caterpillar used on their heavy equipment. Every truck stop used to have them in every color and they screwed onto the "main transmission and auxilliary{brownie} transmission". Nowdays everyone seems to run the air shifted 15-18spd. trans. ie: no aux. trans. = no cat handles. Any help would be appreciated, even caterpillar...tks....Phil

I think I know what you are looking for, I saw one on a 1953 D-7 3T Cat dozer once, it was for the hydraulic blade control, it must have been an extension of sorts, and I vaguely remember them in some twin stick trans. arrangements I've seen. Mostly Mack 6 spd, with the auxillary trans. Did run a B-model with a 5 x 4, but those lvers were stubs compared to the later models. I think McMaster-Carr ( link below ) carries the knobs, long tapered ones if I remember correctly. Definitely try the boneyards, but I'd think a machinist could make one of these in a pinch, to your liking as last resort,(it'll cost more probably) just need thread onto the existing lever, and thread the end for a knob if I am thinking of the same thing you are looking for. Just thinking aloud here.

I use to have onelayen around here some place that i had on the Aux. on one of the old twin sticks that i use to drive. And tryen to find one will be hard since they don't have truck stops anymore they are now travel plaza's , you may want to go looken around some old truck salvage yards you may find some.

Thanks, I'll try that, I even went to K.W. and Pete, but same story. I don't even know if you can buy a truck with 2 trans. any more. Maybe Mack with their quadroplex, and triplex, but I doubt it. You could sure out work the air shifted units they have today with a twin stick, but who knows how to split the gears now???? Thanks again. Phil

You could order part# L-829 from your local Cat dealer. I don"t think they cost too much.
