Reminds me of a service call I went on about a year ago..A Ford 555-A backhoe. When I pulled up to the jobsite, I counted 11 starting fluid cans scattered on the ground around it...Wasn't a pretty sight. The fuel shut-off was plugged with crap.....The damage was done..... ...

I don't know what make of machine you're asking about, Deere maybe? The only spec. that will affect the horsepower are the height of the top ring and/or the piston head standout. The simple existence of three rings or four rings, or coventional top ring or Keystone top ring makes no difference. You also need to match the total weight (piston with rings). The four of them need to weigh the same or you get a balance problem. Generally speaking, if there is one piston with a shattered top ring, the others are, at the least, going to have worn out top ring grooves. Don't know if it's a high-hours engine or too much ether got used. You ought to check it.
